Earthquake resistant adobe houses and the population

The presentation will focus on the advances obtained from an interdisciplinary project
aiming at developing innovative tools and techniques so that low income communities
living in seismic areas are able to construct safe and healthy houses in adobe.

Marcial Blondet is Professor at the Department of Engineering and Dean of the Graduate
School at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). He obtained is title of Civil
Engineering at PUCP and the PhD in Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, USA.
Dr. Blondet is an expert in earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. He is interested in
the development of low cost, healthy and earthquake safe housing, and in the conservation of
earthen historical monuments in seismic areas. He acts as a consultant for the seismic
protection of buildings.
