fib Awards for Outstanding Concrete Structures

These prestigious awards give international recognition to the innovative and inspiring use of concrete in construction. Since 2002, the fib Awards for Outstanding Concrete Structures are given every four years with the goal of promoting international recognition of structures that demonstrate the versatility of concrete as a structural medium. The awards, presented at the fib Congress, consist of a bronze plaque that can be displayed on the structure, and a certificate presented to the principal parties responsible for the work. The fib awards continue the tradition of the former FIP Award for Outstanding Concrete Structures (1990-1998).

Structures entered in the competition must have been completed between 1st January 2010 - 31st January 2013. The jury may accept an older structure, completed one or two years prior to January 2010, provided it was not already submitted for the previous edition of the award (2010). All entries must be endorsed in writing (letter or email) by the Head of Delegation or the National Member Group Secretary for the relevant member country.

The awards are attributed in two categories, Civil Engineering Structures (including bridges) and Buildings, by an international jury designated by the fib Presidium. The jury generally attributes one or two 'Awards' and two or three 'Special Mention' citations in each category, but may change these numbers according to the entries received. The jury members will take into account criteria such as:
• design aspects including aesthetics and design detailing,
• construction practice and quality of work;
• environmental aspects of the design and its construction,
• durability and sustainability aspects,
• significance of the contribution made by the entry to the development and improvement of concrete construction.

The entry deadline for the 2014 edition of the fib Awards for Outstanding Concrete Structures is 15 February 2013. The awards will then be presented in February 2014 at the fib Congress in Mumbai, India (see FIB).

The entry procedure and entry form are available for downloading from the fib website at Awards.
